Does making a hat for your school’s Easter hat parade sound like a bit of a headache? It doesn’t have to be! Let the kids join us for a fun filled afternoon of craft, games and music, while you sit back and relax with the other parents in our Garden Café . (Just think, no shopping and no cleaning up).

Children can choose from 5 designs to make their creation. They will receive a basic hat or mask, to which they attach chosen decorations with the help of our friendly craft leaders. Sounds like fun to me!

This event is for children in yrs K-6. Pre-school children are welcome with a supervising adult.

Entry is $5. Please register to secure your position and chosen project.

This years designs include the following:

This was hugely popular last year so we are doing it again. This time we have crepe paper frill to tape under the brim, and matching crepe paper ribbon to tie a bow at the back of the hat. There will be many colours and varieties of pre-made paper flowers and foliage to tape or glue onto the hat.

This is a variation of our eggs and chicks design, this time with a pre-made raffia birds nest. Children can add nesting materials to the nest, as well as shredding, eggs and feathers. Cardboard pieces for branches and leaves will also be available.

New this year is our empty tomb hat; which basically consists of a modified brown paper bag to form the tomb, and a cardboard circular “rock” attached with a split pin. Peek inside and you’ll see a 3D cardboard “bed” draped with bandages made of cut strips of tissue. Precut lengths of crepe paper and tissue “grass” cover the brim. Children can then draw on a stoney brickwork pattern to the paper bag.

Another new design this year, children can cover a mask with yellow feathers to make a fluffy chick. A paper beak is folded into shape, along with eyelashes to complete the look.

For those who want more artistic freedom, the creative mask presents an offering of a range of different coloured feathers, pipe cleaners, foam stickers, cardboard and paper pieces for children to create something totally original.
